Bluff Walking Track

This is our favourite walk in Barwon Heads and you can do it straight from Little George.

Walk out the front door, turn left onto George Street and then left into Golf Links Road. Follow the path down to the beach and turn left again towards the bluff. The track takes you up and around the headland on a well-maintained path with lookout points over Bass Strait, the Heads, the marine sanctuary and along to 13th Beach. On a clear day the views are ridiculous. You can even spot the Melbourne CBD. On a windy day it is a different kind of beautiful.

Once you are around the bluff, the track drops back down towards the river. Follow it along the water past the bridge and back into town. The whole loop is about 3km and takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on how many times you stop to look at things.

Finish with a coffee at Coffetti on Hitchcock Avenue before wandering home. That is a solid morning right there.

A few things worth knowing. At low tide you can walk around the base of the bluff on the rocks, which is great for rock pooling, but check the tides before you go because there is no safe access at high tide. The cliffs are also unstable in places, so stay clear of the cliff face and read the signage.

Works in any season. In summer, it is a great way to start the day before it gets hot. In winter, the coast is wild and moody, and you will probably have the track to yourself.
