Torquay Farmers’ Market

The Torquay Farmers Market runs every Saturday of the year, rain or shine, from 8:30am to 1pm in the car park of the Surf Coast Shire Offices on Merrijig Drive. It is about a 20-minute drive from Little George.

It is a proper farmers’ market. No craft stalls or vintage clothing, just good local produce sold by the people who grew or made it. You will find fresh fruit and veg, free-range eggs, artisan bread and pastries, cheeses, honey, olives, salami, fresh fish, jams, nuts, locally roasted coffee and whatever else is in season. The quality is consistently good.

If you are self-catering at Little George, a Saturday morning run to the Torquay market is a great way to stock up for the weekend. Grab eggs and bread for breakfast, some cheese and salami for a grazing board on the deck, and whatever fruit looks good. You will eat better for the rest of your trip.

It gets busy, especially over summer, but there is plenty of parking and it moves quickly. Combine it with a stop at Mortadeli for sandwiches or Pholklore for lunch on the way back and you have got yourself a solid morning.
